Ghostbed Split King – Fixed for under $10

Ghostbed Split King bed purchased from CostcoWe recently purchased a Ghostbed Split King Adjustable Bed from Costco.  It is a decent mattress, has an adjustable frame, USB ports and other nice features – but I was surprised that the Split King frames have no way to be lashed together to keep from sliding apart.

We have hard-wood floors, and the separation would develop between the two beds frequently… On more than one occasion, we almost lost Isabelle Pug to the dark chasm in between the two mattresses.  I tried a couple of different methods: cloth straps, lock wire, making sure the feet had ample traction.

Here’s how to keep the two frames of the Ghostbed Split King beds together, without affecting the motorized adjustments:

  • Cut two pieces of “punched steel flat bar”
  • Screw the head and foot legs of the bed through the steel bar
  • enjoy!

I used a piece of 1 3/8″ Punched Steel Flat Bar from Home Depot, you can get two of the 36 inch pieces, or one 72 inch.  A cutting wheel on a Dremel tool was perfect to make the cut, but could be an easy job for a hack saw.

I found it easiest to do this assembly with the bed tilted up on the end where I could access all of the legs at the same time. Simply unscrew the inner legs on the head of the bed and the foot of the bed, place the steel bar between them and screw the legs back to secure them in place.

Upon completion, you’ll have single bed with two independent mechanisms for raising and lowering the head and feet. Leave a comment if this helped you out!
